Rosemary Claire Smith writes science fiction, fantasy, and horror stories showcasing her interests in dinosaurs, alternate history, space exploration, mythology, genetic engineering, time travel, and aliens. Her short fiction has appeared in various periodicals and eight anthologies. She draws on her background as a trowel-wielding archaeologist, reformed lawyer, and an interested observer of society. Her other interests include flower arranging, abstract photography, foil fencing, and astronomy. In 2023, she began reviewing science fiction books for Analog Science Fiction & Fact.
She is most well known for her two alternate history novelettes in which a female cosmonaut defected to the U.S. in the 1960s and fought to become an astronaut for NASA:
- The Next Frontier
- Apollo in Retrograde
She has also written about the geology and geography, underlying these stories. The cover art is also a good time:
