ON BEGINNING A NEW STORY

Yes, yes, here comes that sense of golden possibilities when nothing but the very first sentence stares back at me like a path curving around the bend, daring me to set foot, to follow it into the dark wood, heedless of the uneven trail covered with slick leaves, the steep drop-off to the rocks and rushing water below, the branches reaching to ensnare me. I’ll follow it every time.
